Michael Carrick has had an update on the fitness of Harry Maguire following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with West Ham on Tuesday evening.
Michael Carrick’s men have just under two weeks of respite after his first five games in charge of the men’s first team following Rúben Amorim’s sacking last month.
Manchester United have picked up a brilliant 13 of a possible 15 points across the five ties, with epic wins over the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, and Tottenham, followed by a 1-1 draw against West Ham on Tuesday evening.
While the draw in East London has flattened the mood a little around the club, unbeaten in five and keeping themselves in the top four and well within control of the battle for Champions League qualification spots.
Following their rest, Carrick will lead his men for a trip to Liverpool to face an Everton side in mixed form, having won two of their last five games and sitting eighth in the Premier League table. Below is the latest injury news on United’s side.
Harry Maguire
What happened: Harry Maguire was spotted holding his hamstring following a challenge with Crysencio Summerville in the first half of the tie against West Ham. He was then withdrawn in the 68th minute.
What’s been said: According to journalist Steven Railston, Maguire said his injury was “good” as he left the London Stadium on Tuesday evening, suggesting that his problem is not too serious.
Expected return date: Monday, 23 February – Everton (H).
Mason Mount
What happened: Mason Mount has not been in either of United’s squads against Fulham or Tottenham due to a knock in training, having last featured during the win over Man City last month.
What’s been said: “Mason will be probably not for Tuesday, but definitely going into the Everton game he’ll be back,” Carrick said late last week, before the West Ham tie.
Expected return date: Monday, 23 February – Everton (H).
Matthijs de Ligt
What happened: Having started the first 13 Premier League games of United’s season, Matthijs de Ligt has now missed every fixture since the end of November with a back problem.
What’s been said: “We’ll see how he develops,” Carrick said last week. “The Everton game feels like a long time away at the moment, so we’ll see how he develops, but he’s positive, he’s moving in the right direction.”
Expected return date: Early March.
Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu
What happened: Amid a brilliant bout of form, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu sustained a hamstring injury against Arsenal, with initial reports suggesting that he could miss ten weeks of action.
What’s been said: “It could possibly [be up to ten weeks], we’re working through it,” Carrick recently commented. “Certainly looking forward to getting him back as quick as we can and getting [him] on the pitch long before the end of the season.”
Expected return date: Late March or early April.
