Manchester United look to return to winning ways in the league after a disappointing collapse against Tottenham Hotspur in mid-week.

Unai Emery’s in-form Aston Villa are next up for Erik ten Hag‘s men who are all too familiar with the danger they pose after a 3-1 Manchester United loss the last time these two teams met in the Premier League.

No team has picked up more points than Aston Villa this calendar year and with a trip to Brighton on Thursday followed by a tricky tie away to West Ham the following Sunday, the United boss will be keen to guard against complacency heading into this fixture.

The Reds sit six points clear of both Tottenham Hotspur in fifth and Aston Villa in sixth and they have the opportunity to move third with a win on Sunday afternoon.

Here is the team news ahead of the Sunday fixture.

Manchester United team news

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez remain sidelined for The Reds but on a more positive note, Alejandro Garnacho returned to full training with the team on Saturday morning.

The Argentine celebrated signing a new contract on Friday which will see him stay at the club until 2028 after doubts were initially raised over this future. A return to the squad shouldn’t be too far away for the 18-year-old.

Harry Maguire faces a late fitness test after picking up an injury in training which ruled him out against Spurs in the week. Scott McTominay faces a similar fate after missing the last few weeks through injury.

There are no fresh concerns over Bruno Fernandes who completed 90 minutes on Thursday evening despite leaving Wembley in a protective boot a few days prior.

Aston Villa team news

Unai Emery is likely to be without both Phillipe Coutinho and Matty Cash for the trip to Old Trafford. Both have made good progress but Sunday’s fixture may come too soon for the pair.

Leon Bailey, who left a cheeky comment on Jadon Sancho’s Instagram post earlier this week, is sidelined with a hamstring injury whilst Boubacar Kamara remains unavailable due to an ankle injury.
