Lyon confirm 21-man squad to face Manchester United as huge Europa League boost revealed

Lyon have confirmed their 21-man squad to face Manchester United in the second-leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash.

Manchester United and Lyon played out a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final in France last week, setting up a pivotal second leg at Old Trafford this Thursday night.

Ruben Amorim’s side will be looking to bounce back after a humbling 4-1 loss to Newcastle, a defeat made worse by an injury to Joshua Zirkzee, further complicating their game plan.

Meanwhile, Lyon arrive in Manchester riding a wave of confidence following a solid 3-1 victory over Auxerre at the weekend, a result that helped them hold on to fourth place in Ligue 1.

With the stakes high, United must quickly regroup and refocus as they prepare for what promises to be a decisive encounter.

Lyon receive huge Europa League boost for United clash

On Wednesday afternoon, Amorim provided some important team news for the clash. It was confirmed that André Onana will start the tie after being rested against Newcastle.

Matthijs de Ligt remains unavailable while Ayden Heaven suffered an injury setback. Joshua Zirkzee has also been ruled out of the rest of the season.

Lyon have also confirmed their travelling squad after arriving in England on Wednesday evening, with Paulo Fonseca bringing 21 players to Old Trafford.

Nemanja Matic has been named in the squad and the ex-United midfielder will be hoping to take to the pitch after he was an unused substitute in the first-leg.

Ex-Arsenal star Alexander Lacazette is also involved, as is United-linked playmaker Rayan Cherki, who scored the last-minute equaliser against United last time out.

More importantly, Lyon have received a boost through the return of Malick Fofana into their squad for the game after he missed the first-leg through injury.

Fofana, 20, has been one of the French club’s best attacking threats in the Europa League. He has six goals and one assist in nine appearances in the competition this term.

He returns to the action and the visitors will be hoping that he can once again make the difference, while United will be guarding him carefully.
