Luke Shaw has reportedly opened the door to an exit from Manchester United this summer after Rúben Amorim already lined up his replacement.
Manchester United are now focusing on their final three transfer targets of the summer, with Rúben Amorim preparing for his first full season at the helm at Old Trafford.
So far, the club have added Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, and Bryan Mbeumo, with Cunha and Mbeumo expected to form two-thirds of a revamped front line. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Leon is set to play backup to Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu at left wing-back.
In the remaining five weeks of the window, United are aiming to sign an experienced striker, a defensive midfielder, and a goalkeeper who can offer serious competition to André Onana.
However, further additions will depend on significant outgoings, with key players such as Alejandro Garnacho potentially needing to be sold to generate funds.
Shaw makes decision on United transfer
Earlier this week, United released a video from the flight that took Amorim’s squad to the United States for pre-season, in which defender Luke Shaw commented that it was his 10th pre-season tour with the club.
Despite the longevity, Shaw has only made 287 for the club in that time. For comparison, Bruno Fernandes has made 290, despite joining five and a half years after Shaw signed his first contract at Old Trafford.
According to The Sun, Shaw is aware that there are some serious offers on the table from Saudi Pro League sides, and has decided that he is willing to listen to offers for an exit from the club this summer.
The English left-back has two years remaining on his current £150,000 a week deal, but fears his time as a significant player at Old Trafford may be coming to an end, with the player now out of the running at left wing-back under Amorim and the emergence of Ayden Heaven at centre-back.
However, it is also noted that Amorim has no desire to push Shaw out the door, as the 30-year-old remains a popular and influential figure within the squad – although amid the need for sales, if a reasonable offer were to be made, it would likely be accepted.
Amorim has already lined up Shaw’s replacement
Shaw is right to feel that his role at United would be dramatically reduced next season, with Amorim having already lined up a replacement in two of his favoured positions.
Shaw has always been highly regarded for his attacking abilities from left-back, but considering his number of injury issues, Leon’s “powerful” performance at left wing-back against Leeds last week has shoved Shaw well down the pecking order on the flank.
“He did really well,” Amorim commented on Leon after the tie. “He’s learning things, he’s powerful, he’s going to be a very good player.”

Similarly, Shaw’s other favoured position under Amorim – on the left of the back three – is now being taken over by the storming Heaven, who has impressed greatly during his opening months at the club.
Heaven, an 18-year-old, signed from Arsenal in January, and although he was initially touted as a U21s player, his stature at the club grew quickly, and he is now considered a first-team player.
Shaw is likely to find game time very hard to come by next season, and heading to Saudi Arabia may soon become his best option.
