Luke Shaw hails Manchester United teammate after Liverpool draw, Juan Mata agrees
Bruno Fernandes received the Man of the Match award after Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on the weekend.
Manchester United earned a well-deserved 2-2 draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool in a captivating match at Anfield this weekend.
Lisandro Martínez put United ahead with a superb strike, but Cody Gakpo quickly equalised for the hosts minutes later.
VAR drama followed as Liverpool were awarded a penalty for a De Ligt handball, which Mo Salah converted to give them a 2-1 lead.
United fought back with Amad Diallo scoring a well-worked equaliser and Amorim’s side were unfortunate to not take all three points in the end.
Shaw hails Fernandes impact vs Liverpool
Bruno Fernandes produced one of his best performances of the season on Sunday. He was involved in both United goals and worked tirelessly throughout the game.
After receiving the Man of the Match award, the club captain posted a variety of images on his Instagram page.
Luke Shaw quickly took to the comments to hail his teammate. The currently-injured defender wrote: “You are so good ❤️”
Ex-teammate Juan Mata, who knows exactly what it’s like to perform away at Anfield, also responded to the post, saying: “Proud ❤️”.
Manuel Ugarte and Anthony Elanga were among the other players to comment on Fernandes’ post.
When is Shaw set to return to fitness?
Shaw suffered an injury setback last month after Ruben Amorim took his reintegration very carefully.
The defender said that he was ‘absolutely devastated’ in a statement released on social media, admitting that he is going through the ‘toughest period’ of his career.
Many United fans are unable to feel sorry for the defender after he made himself available for England at Euro 2024, but others – and Amorim – are supporting him in his recovery.
Ahead of the Liverpool game, the Portuguese head coach claimed that Jonny Evans and Shaw are ‘almost there’ when asked about their fitness.

That could mean a return to the squad this month for Shaw, but yet again, his reintegration will be taken slowly. Any further setbacks would have to be the nail in the coffin for his career at the club.
