Luke Shaw describes what it’s like to play with “absolute monster” Lisandro Martinez
Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez have formed an excellent partnership on the left-hand side of defence this season under Erik ten Hag.
Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez have become two of Manchester United‘s most important players under Erik ten Hag this season, and are a key part of why the club have been on such a winning streak of late.
Martinez signed for United in the summer of 2022 for a fee just under £50 million, with many gawking at the price tag considering that for a defender, 5 foot 9 inches is small – and many doubted that Martinez would be able to live up to the Premier League’s physical nature.

This, however, is no longer a criticism – Martinez has proved that he is one of the best defenders in the league.
Speaking to the Press Association about his defensive partner, Shaw called has described Martinez as an “absolute monster” and has been blown away by him since he signed from Ajax.
“I could see his qualities, feel the passion that he brings, how aggressive he is and he’s got an amazing left foot,” Shaw explained on his first impressions of the Argentine defender.
“With the ball, he’s so composed, so good and I think a lot of football nowadays is how well the centre-back can play out. But I think, for me, he’s got everything.
“There was obviously a lot of question over his height at the start, which, for me, was nonsense, really.

“He reads the game so well. With someone that intelligent, I don’t think it matters how tall you are or not, wherever you play, as long as you read the game well.
“For me, he does that and I love playing next to him. He’s an amazing player and still really young. He’s only going to get better and better, I think.”
Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw, barring injury, are both nailed on to start the Carabao Cup final alongside each other on Sunday afternoon.
Erik ten Hag will be looking to get his first trophy as Manchester United manager, with Newcastle United standing in the way and hoping to end their trophy drought that has lasted over half a century.
