Luke Shaw aims subtle dig as he hails Ruben Amorim’s new ‘brilliant players’, explaining what’s completely changed at Man Utd

In a recent interview, Luke Shaw aimed a subtle dig at want-away Manchester United stars, whilst also singing praises for his manager, Ruben Amorim.

With Manchester United aiming to put last season’s sorrows behind them, they have turned their attention to the transfer market to bolster what was a struggling squad.

Ruben Amorim’s side finished 15th in the Premier League last season, scoring only 44 goals in the process. They have since acquired Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as they attempt to rid these goalscoring woes.

Although the signings are most likely not done there, the new season is in touching distance, and that brings the territory of speculating how well the Reds’ new signings will fare in the new campaign.

Luke Shaw, who suffered an incredibly difficult 2024/25 season, recently spoke in an interview where he shared his thoughts on Amorim as a manager, as well as offering insight into how United’s two new attackers are settling in.

Shaw praises Amorim

In an interview with The United Stand on YouTube, the English left-back spoke highly of his Portuguese tactician and made it clear that he feels as if everything is starting to come together for the Reds.

Shaw explained that he feels the squad are starting to become a “real team” and has felt a new vibe within the dressing room since the start of pre-season, also firing a subtle dig at those who have been excluded from the squad.

Shaw said about Amorim, “I think his mentality, his demands, he’s extremely tough on the group. I think, you know, he leaves no stone unturned, and I think there are no stragglers in this group anymore. I think everyone has to put the team first. He’s made that very clear.

“I think he’s picking players on how he feels will be best for the team, and that’s his choice, and us as players, we’re fully behind him and fully behind his ideas and what he wants to implement in this team.

“I think we feel like a real team, especially this pre-season, since I’ve been back, the group is so together. I think that’s something that we need to keep to make us more of a family and everyone all together. We’re all driving in the same direction.”

Shaw’s thoughts on United’s signings

A little bit later on in the interview, the 30-year-old was asked about how refreshing it was to have new signings in the squad, and whether it gave them a breath of fresh air.

“Of course, it’s always nice to have new faces,” Shaw said on the new additions. “They’ve been brilliant signings. They’re brilliant players. They’re going to add a lot to the group. I think not just on the pitch, but off the pitch in the group as well. They’re very lively characters, which is always nice.

“For me, the start of this pre-season, I already feel a different kind of vibe in the group from the ones that were here last season. It feels much more energised. Of course, we know how bad our season was, but like I said, I think everyone’s put that behind us now.”

United’s loyal left back clearly has optimistic aspirations ahead of the new campaign, which can give fans of the Red Devils something to finally be excited about.
