Reigning Champions League manager Luis Enrique is set to be “put forward” for Manchester United manager as links to a move to Old Trafford grow.
Manchester United have looked like a new team under the leadership of Michael Carrick. The 44-year-old took over from Rúben Amorim in January to see out the rest of the season and push United up into a Champions League finish.
The Red Devils certainly look set for their first Champions League finish since 2022/23 under Erik ten Hag, as United have the opportunity to move into third ahead of Aston Villa, if they beat Oliver Glazer’s Crystal Palace.
Whilst Carrick has been a breath of fresh air, uncertainty remains over who will be the next permanent manager to take the wheel at Old Trafford.
Luis Enrique has emerged in conversation over a move to United as reports suggest a managerial change could be in the works.
Enrique tipped for United move
The Mirror reports that Luis Enrique has been “put forward” to become the new Manchester United manager.
However, a report from Catalunya Radio has revealed that Barcelona may be a preferred destination for the 55-year-old. This comes even though Barca manager, Hansi Flick, is the reigning La Liga champion.
If the Catalan giants were to introduce a new president, then a managerial change would become far more likely.
Manchester United have an array of managerial candidates on their radar, but Enrique may be the best-suited option to secure trophies under United’s belt and push for the Premier League title.
Enrique pioneered the strongest team in Europe last season with Paris Saint-Germain, winning the Champions League in a dominant 5-0 victory against Inter Milan, but a move to the Premier League may be his toughest challenge yet.

What should United look for in a manager?
One phrase has been thrown around the fanbase repeatedly: the United DNA. A mindset that should be embedded into both players and managers alike. Many believe that this trait is shown in Carrick with his current playing style, paired with the performances and mentality behind the team.
Enrique is a proven winner, and would be a clear statement of intent if he were to arrive at Old Trafford. But he does not possess the knowledge and experience in the club which Carrick has.
United have opted for the trophy-driven manager, with the likes of Jose Mourinho, who, whilst securing a Europa League title and a League Cup, was not the optimal long-term solution to the club.
For now, Carrick’s focus is on maintaining this high standard in the Premier League, with Crystal Palace next in his path as he looks to extend his unbeaten run.
