“Like a school teacher…” Rúben Amorim handed bizarre warning from Manchester United hero
While Rúben Amorim has been implementing a new style of football at Manchester United, a club hero has sent him a bizarre warning about acting too much like a one-man band.
Rúben Amorim has been spending the last five weeks starting to understand his Manchester United squad after he took over Erik ten Hag, assuming the role of head coach at Old Trafford.
So far, he has managed eight games, securing four wins, one draw, and three losses across all competitions, but many can see that the 39-year-old’s style of football is taking shape at the club.
Many players such as Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes, and Noussair Mazraoui are thriving in their new roles at United, with this trio in particular forming part of Amorim’s undroppable set of players.
Amorim has also had to put out several fires during his opening month at United and is continuing to go about his job with grace and decorum.
Saha sends a warning to Amorim
Former United striker Louis Saha, who many few as a hero at Old Trafford, has sent a warning to Amorim, explaining that he cannot act “like a school teacher” and take on all the responsibility for United himself.
“Ruben Amorim’s brutally honest and well balanced, Saha told BetFred. “He understands that the communication needs to be right and that he needs to be frank and he needs to be strong.
“At the same time however, he can’t go around acting like a school teacher because he needs to give the players responsibility and I do believe he will do that as time progresses and more freedom will come.
“At this very moment, he wants consistency and the basics to be done right. Players doing well for one game isn’t enough. It’s not about qualifying for the Champions League next season or anything like this, it’s about being dedicated and reconnecting with the passion of football.
“Things are coming together and I think on Sunday they were still lucky because only one player was capable of turning the game around for them. Amad Diallo can’t do it alone. Bruno Fernandes can’t do it alone.
“They need most of the starting eleven to be at that level every week and the manager is asking for much more from the players.”
Saha’s warning is bizarre as Amorim is already proving him wrong
Although Saha would have a point if Amorim was taking on all the responsibility himself, it comes across rather bizarre as there have been multiple instances already where players are taking on their own responsibilities.
Against Tottenham on Thursday evening, when Jonny Evans had to replace Victor Lindelöf early due to an injury in the first half, club captain Bruno Fernandes was seen speaking at length with the former Northern Ireland international.
Fernandes went around the group just before the second half started to make sure each player knew their roles and instructions, and the side went on to score three goals in the second half, although ultimately, individual errors cost them the tie as they lost 4-3.
There have been other instances of responsibility and leadership from the players, too, with those such as Matthijs de Ligt, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui putting on commanding displays amid a turbulent time.
Saha’s warning is a little bizarre, but his overall point rings true – to succeed, responsibility must be shown across the board, from the coaches and the players.
