Lisandro Martínez: Further details on scans after Man Utd defender pulled out of Argentina duty
Lisandro Martínez pulled out of international duty with Argentina after suffering a knock in Manchester United’s latest game.
Ruben Amorim has started his role at Manchester United as head coach this week and met with several players on Tuesday.
The likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Toby Collyer and Luke Shaw were pictured with the 39-year-old at Carrington during their recovery sessions.
Amorim will be preparing to face Ipswich Town in his first Premier League game in two weeks and he will be hoping to have close to a fully fit squad to choose from.
Many of the current players out of action are expected to be close to a return by that point, although it has been confirmed that Lisandro Martínez will miss international duty with Argentina this week.
Further details on Lisandro Martínez injury
According to a report from La Nacion, the United defender withdrew from the Argentina squad following scans which found a hip problem.
He looked to get a knock in the latest game against Leicester City and the report claims that the 2022 World Cup winners elected not to take a risk with the defender after doing those additional scans.
D Sports adds that a bigger problem was revealed during those scans, with the defender complaining of ‘discomfort’ and being unable to ‘function normally’ with the hip issue.
Argentina have confirmed his exit from the squad and announced that he would be replaced by Facundo Medina.
Overall, while the issue has been enough to keep him out of the Argentina squad, Martínez will likely be fit and available for the start of Amorim’s reign in two weeks.
Martínez key for Amorim
Amorim will be hoping that the issue is nothing serious, especially since Martínez will likely be key for his system.
The new boss is looking to implement his new 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford immediately and Martínez’s progressive play from the back is something he looks for in his wide centre-backs.
The 26-year-old is also hitting much better form now after a mixed start to the season. He has been impressive in recent weeks and will want to be available for Amorim’s start.
