Manchester United will look to bounce back from the loss at Anfield as they host Southampton at Old Trafford on Sunday, a win will massively help their quest to secure a Champions League berth next season.

After what was undoubtedly the worst result of Erik ten Hag‘s era, United went back to winning ways by beating Real Betis in the Europa League. The manager’s unchanged XI shows a degree of trust in his players and shows there was not much change in the injury department.

That being said, there could potentially be one key player returning for tomorrow’s game. Despite being 19th on the Premier League table, Southampton managed to beat Chelsea away from home just a few weeks ago. Therefore, United will need to be at their absolute best against them.

Here is the latest team news for both teams ahead of the game:

Manchester United team news

For the Reds, the return of one Anthony Martial has been highly anticipated for quite some time. The Frenchman has been out with a hip injury he sustained during the Carabao Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

In his pre-match presser, the boss confirmed that Martial has resumed training with the group and could be involved in the game against Southampton.

Ten Hag also confirmed that Christian Eriksen is making good progress in the recovery from his ankle injury. The Danish midfielder is very likely to make a comeback before the season ends and is already back in training.

If all goes well, we can expect Eriksen to return after the international break. In terms of other absentees, Marcel Sabitzer will not be available after also missing the Betis game, while Donny van de Beek is out for the season.

Southampton team news

As confirmed by interim manager Rubén Sellés, the Saints are still waiting for confirmation on the fitness of a certain player on Sunday. Young midfielder Carlos Alcaraz injured his knee while celebrating the match-winner he scored against Leicester City just five days ago.

The Argentine has reportedly recovered well enough to join the training squad, although it remains to be seen whether he will make the trip to M16.

Elsewhere, there are no fresh injury concerns for the visitors apart from long-term absentees Tino Livramento and Juan Larios.
