Manchester United are hoping Marcus Rashford will be deemed fit to start after the winger was substituted through injury against Barcelona.

Manchester United are set to take on Newcastle United in the 2023 Carabao Cup final as Erik ten Hag aims to win his first trophy as United manager.

The Red Devils have had a great road to the final, keeping clean sheets in all but one of their matches.

United have been boosted with a return from injury for some key players within the squad, while Newcastle have been dealt two big blows.

Erik ten Hag was handed a great boost ahead of the final, as Antony returned to action on Thursday evening, scoring the winning goal against Barcelona.

Scott McTominay recently returned to action too in the last week, coming on as a late substitute against Barcelona and Leicester City.

Marcus Rashford, although initially a doubt for the fixture, has travelled with the rest of the Manchester United squad to London on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking on Rashford’s injury after the Barcelona tie, Erik ten Hag was unsure of his availability. “Players are now coming in (to Carrington), we have to do investigations, medical (checks). Straight after a game, you can’t say, you have to wait for medical (checks).”

Considering that Rashford was included in the travelling squad, it can be assumed that he is at least fit enough to have an impact off the bench.

Striker Anthony Martial has been ruled out of the final due to injury. “No, he will not be available,” Erik told reporters on Friday lunchtime.

Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek remain sidelined through injury.

Newcastle United team news

Newcastle United will be without Nick Pope for the clash after the English goalkeeper was sent off during their Premier League fixture against Liverpool for a handball.

Substitute keeper Martin Dubravka will not be able to feature either, as he is cup-tied after appearing for United in the competition in earlier rounds while on loan at the club during the end of 2022.

Emil Krafth is still a few months away from returning to action for the Magpies, with Joe Willock, Joelinton, and Matt Targett all hoping to be fit in time to take part at Wembley.
