Manchester United welcome Reading to Old Trafford in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Erik ten Hag has had a few players unavailable for selection in the last week or so, through either injury or suspension.

“We always have issues, but I think tomorrow, we have a strong selection for this game,” said said Ten Hag during his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“We have a good squad, we have depth in the squad, so we can cover things,” he said on his Manchester United squad.

Manchester United team news

Jadon Sancho could be back in contention for Manchester United after he faced an extended period on the side lines due to rehabilitation from personal and fitness issues, with fans eager to see the young winger in action once again at Old Trafford.

“He is training with the team and we will see,” Ten Hag said on the player. “He is improving, he is making steps, we will make the decision after the training. He’s on the way back, he’s making steps, so he’s back in team training and now we have to see when he is ready to go back into the games.”

Diogo Dalot, who was injured during United’s 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic earlier in January, is still unavailable, while Luke Shaw is still recovering from illness, and will be assessed ahead of the fixture on Saturday evening.

There is no new update on the fitness of Anthony Martial, although it is presumed that he will continue to be unavailable after missing the squad for United’s last three fixtures after being substituted at half-time against Manchester City a fortnight ago.

Donny van de Beek is out of action for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery earlier this month.

Reading team news

Reading have been handed a boost after veteran striker Andy Carroll returned to training earlier than anticipated. It was estimated that he would miss the fixture, but is now in contention to start after he was side lined with an ankle problem.

Reading manager Paul Ince said Carroll had “no problems” in training on Wednesday.

The South-England club have four absentees for the fixture, with centre-back Naby Sarr a doubt for the game with a foot problem. Sam Hutchinson (centre-back), Liam Moore (centre-back) and Ovie Ejaria (midfielder) are all definitely unavailable for the trip to Manchester.
