Kobbie Mainoo receives interesting offer after lack of Manchester United game-time

Kobbie Mainoo has received an interesting offer to consider after his lack of game-time for Manchester United at the start of the season.

With Manchester United sitting tenth in the Premier League as they head into the second international break of the season, many questions have been asked of Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese tactician has stuck with his 3-4-2-1 system despite many complaints that it doesn’t optimise the majority of United’s top talents, including captain Bruno Fernandes.

As well as Fernandes, one other star who has really suffered for the Reds in the early stages of the new season is Kobbie Mainoo, who has yet to start a league fixture.

Despite requesting a loan move at the back-end of the summer transfer window, Mainoo has been made to stay put at United which has left him struggling for regular minutes.

Mainoo’s interesting offer

Since falling down the pecking order at United, Mainoo has yet to be selected for England’s national team in either of the international breaks.

Thomas Tuchel has spoken on this and explained that the 20-year-old midfielder will need to be playing regularly if he is to be considered in the German boss’s plans.

With this being said, England’s Under-21s have contacted the United midfielder about the possibility of representing their youth team, as stated by the Manchester Evening News.

Lee Carsley said, “I’ve got in contact with both of them [Mainoo and Adam Wharton]. So they’re players that are highly rated within the system. I think it’s one that we just assess every camp. I’m sure they’re both pitching to being in the senior team.”

Mainoo’s dilemma

Having had his request for a loan move denied in August, it is understandable that Mainoo would be annoyed given his lack of minutes since the transfer window slammed shut.

The young Englishman is having to compete with Fernandes for a spot in the United pivot, and given the United captain’s consistent availability, it is no surprise that Mainoo has yet to displace him.

If Amorim is to remain the United manager, the club may be forced to let their young talent leave, at least on a loan basis, with Mainoo desperate for game-time ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

It will be interesting to see if Mainoo accepts the proposal of Carsley, or if he will continue to wait for the call-up to the main squad ahead of next summer.
