Kobbie Mainoo receives ‘difficult’ message from Manchester United legend after exit rumours re-emerge

Kobbie Mainoo has received a message from one Manchester United legend after exit rumours re-emerged surrounding the midfielder this week.

Kobbie Mainoo has remained on the bench for both of Manchester United’s opening Premier League matches this season.

At Craven Cottage, moments after United’s away supporters urged their team to “attack, attack, attack,” Ruben Amorim opted to introduce two centre-backs instead, once again leaving the Academy prospect unused.

The decision has added to doubts over Mainoo’s role under Amorim, with reports indicating that a move away before the transfer deadline cannot be ruled out.

Amorim has explained that Mainoo is competing for the same position as Bruno Fernandes – a tough challenge given the captain’s ever-present status in the starting XI.

Mainoo receives ‘difficult’ message from United legend

Following on from these potential exit rumours, Rio Ferdinand has sent a direct message to Mainoo and pleaded for him to stay despite the ‘difficult’ situation.

“David Ornstein was saying that Kobbie Mainoo is open to leaving. I don’t want to hear that,” he said on his YouTube channel.

“So Kobbie, if you’re watching, please don’t let me hear that, please, I need you to stay at the club. Be patient please, I know it’s difficult. It’s easy for me to say but I wanna see you here.”

Ferdinand also addressed the other players linked away from Old Trafford and explained how he hopes they get their desired moves in the coming days.

“Antony, Jadon Sancho, Malacia, Garnacho, Rasmus Højlund – I hope for your sake you get out and find a club you desire, you get a situatuon that suits you and you go on and do your thing,” he added.

Mainoo unlikely to leave

Fortunately for Ferdinand, any exit for Mainoo in these final days of the window simply seem very, very unlikely to happen.

There has been a lot of rumours swirling on social media, as always, but the Mainoo situation seems to be slightly overblown.

The limited game-time so far is not the issue – being classed as Bruno Fernandes’ backup on the other hand is concerning.

Unless the Portuguese captain suddenly starts getting injuries, he will play most games and Mainoo needs to have chances in the team regardless of the situation.

That is the concern for a lot of fans, and hopefully a solution can be found swiftly.
