Kobbie Mainoo has been sent a warning regarding a reported wish of his should he chose to leave Manchester United in the coming transfer window.

Manchester United are planning a significant squad overhaul this summer as they look to raise funds for Rúben Amorim’s rebuild by generating as much profit as possible from player sales.

With Amorim set to implement a demanding tactical system, several players are expected to be moved on, as they do not fit the style he intends to enforce. The club is preparing for a busy transfer window, with multiple first-team departures anticipated.

Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are among those set to leave, with their contracts expiring at the end of the season. Meanwhile, United are also looking to cash in on players currently out on loan, including Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, none of whom appear to have a future at the club under the new regime.

Additionally, experienced figures like Casemiro are expected to be sold as part of the clear-out, as the club seeks to refresh the squad with players better suited to Amorim’s philosophy.

Mainoo’s reported summer transfer wish

Alongside those players expected to leave, there have also been rumours that the club may look offload Academy players as they represent pure profit on their financial books.

Although Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already confirmed that no Academy players would be sold for purely financial reasons, there is still a question mark sitting over the future of Kobbie Mainoo.

A report by The Guardian from earlier this month claimed that, with Mainoo’s current contract set to expire in 2027 (plus an option for the club to extend it by a further season), the player and his representatives are not happy with the terms United have offered him over a new deal.

It’s stated in other reports that Mainoo wants a hike from his £20,000 a week contract to around £150,000 a week, and The Guardian’s report claims he is planning on rejecting United’s current offer.

With United so far failing to meet his current demands, it’s stated that the 19-year-old will seek a move abroad this summer. United are said to value him at around £70 million.

Parker warns Mainoo about international transfer wish

Amid the claim that Mainoo wants to move abroad should he leave United, former United defender Paul Parker has warned the young star about the consequences of having to adjust to a new form of football after growing up in England.

“The lad’s done incredible, but he’s picked up a few injuries, and his form’s not been anywhere near it was the previous season because when he came back from the Euros he’s picked up little nicks, and the change of formation is something that he’s still trying to adjust to,” Parker told BetFred.

“If he moves, it would be a big change in his short career so far because he’s been at Manchester United for all his life.

“If he wants to go abroad and move to a big club in Europe, one that’s going to educate him on a different style of football, then he’s got to choose that club wisely. He’s got to be clever.

“At this moment in time, do I believe what’s being reported? Not really.”
