Manchester United have now delayed the next contract they will hand Kobbie Mainoo due to decisions they deem as greater priorities.

Kobbie Mainoo‘s rise within Manchester United‘s first team this season has been a bright spark in what has been a poor season at Old Trafford.

Despite the recent FA Cup win, which has no doubt lifted the mood around Erik ten Hag heading into the summer transfer window, it cannot be forgotten that they finished eighth in the Premier League table and were out of the Champions League before Christmas.

Mainoo scored what ended up becoming the winning goal against Manchester City in the FA Cup final, calmly slotting Bruno Fernandes’ reverse pass beyond Stephan Ortega at Wembley Stadium, rounding off what has been a brilliant debut season for the youngster.

A few months ago, reports surfaced that United were set to hand Mainoo a new contract to reflect his growing influence in the first-team squad, but these reports then went quiet as the season reached its climax.

However, a fresh update from The Telegraph has revealed that United are now “likely” to wait until after the summer in order to hand Kobbie Mainoo his much-deserved new deal.

Talks about a new contract are said to currently be on pause as United feel that they have other priorities this summer, including the amount of work they must undertake in the coming months to reshape the current squad.

A further decision needs to be made regarding the manager’s situation, with Ten Hag’s future far from safe. Mainoo’s camp is said to be relaxed about the situation and not placing any pressure on the club to sign a new deal.
