Kobbie Mainoo makes public Senne Lammens defence after Everton corner tactics with hilarious message

Kobbie Mainoo has taken to social media to back up Senne Lammens after Everton players repeatedly crowded the goalkeeper during Manchester United’s 1-0 victory.

Senne Lammens has been a shining light in Manchester United’s transformation under Michael Carrick and has helped the former-United stalwart in his impressive unbeaten start as interim manager of the Red Devils.

After making the move to Old Trafford on deadline day, there has been no looking back for Lammens. Signing for only £18.1 million, he has solidified his position as United’s starting goalkeeper at just 23 years old.

The Belgian shot-stopper displays an incredible amount of maturity for a player of his age and currently seems to be the solution to United’s delayed search for a replacement for David de Gea. The stats speak for themselves: United has lost only two of the 19 Premier League games he has played in.

However, his talent has seemingly been noticed by other clubs, who are aiming to target Lammens specifically at corners, as David Moyes’s Everton side attempted to overcrowd the goalkeeper’s six-yard box, to no avail.

Everton’s failure to deter Lammens saw fans take to social media to mock the Toffees’ attempt at the dark arts, with United player Kobbie Mainoo getting in on the act to defend his teammate.

Kobbie Mainoo mocks Everton’s controversial corner tactics

Mainoo took to Instagram to poke fun at Everton, comparing their corner tactics to a scene out of a WWE Royal Rumble event. A wordless post was all that was needed, sparking conversation between fans on other platforms like X.

Fans heaped praise on Lammens, who was awarded Man Of The Match, and deservedly so. United’s keeper consistently claimed crosses, punched away corners and earnt himself the award and ensured his side would travel back to Manchester with all three-points.

Mainoo himself put in another solid performance in the middle park, being another player who has helped his side shoot up the Premier League table and firmly into Champions League qualification contention.

Fans will be delighted to see the 20-year-old starting week after week, as earlier this season, it seemed likely that the Carrington graduate could depart Old Trafford. However, Ruben Amorim’s departure and Carrick’s subsequent appointment have seemingly ensured Mainoo is in the club’s long-term plans.

Lammens speaks on difficulties he faced vs Everton

Speaking to Sky after the 1-0 victory against Everton on Monday, Lammens explained: “Everton are a physical team, their defenders are really big. We knew the corners and set pieces would be difficult. It’s a strength of mine [dealing with crosses], but today it was a bit over the top!

“I had to be behind the line in order to come out. It was too much, but it can be difficult for the referee to see it. Sometimes you can’t be thinking too much about players around you, because then you aren’t thinking about the ball.

“My defenders can create space for me, so I have the opportunity to come and punch the ball away. But it is getting more and more difficult.”

Manchester United’s backline has become increasingly reliable with Lammens in between the sticks, which has provided a platform for the team to go on the current unbeaten run they are on and will have to remain consistent throughout the remainder of the season if they hope to qualify for the Champions League.
