Kobbie Mainoo has delivered the perfect message about Manchester United’s current situation heading into the semi-finals of the Europa League.
Manchester United have had a terrible season so far and there is no getting away from that.
Sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League and out of both domestic cup competitions, it has been a bleak campaign for Ruben Amorim’s side.
However, they have the unique opportunity of ending it on a positive note through the Europa League after reaching the semi-finals of that competition.
Victory would see them qualify for the Champions League next season and give some hope to fans who are worried about the team’s situation.
Mainoo delivers perfect message about United situation
Kobbie Mainoo has been speaking to Sky Sports about the prospect of winning the Europa League and delivered the perfect message.
While the teenager explained how lifting silverware would be positive for the team heading into next season, he also assured that it would not make this season a success.
Despite the poor campaign, Mainoo also stated that he and his teammates must stick together and that they cannot crumble just because things aren’t going their way at the minute.
“The Europa League is a big opportunity [to rescue the season] but I wouldn’t say it would make the season a success,” Mainoo said this week.
“It’ll definitely give hope for us to take something positive into next season. The season’s not gone how we would have liked it to, but we can’t just be down and all fall apart, because then where do we end up? We have to stay together and keep a spirit, because there are still big games to be played.”
United players should be paying attention to those words from Mainoo – there needs to be a unity in the group for them to overcome the challenges awaiting for them in these final Europa League games.
United’s worst team could win three trophies in as many years
While Mainoo is definitely correct that winning the Europa League won’t wipe away the poor campaign United have had, it is certainly a strange outcome.
That would become the third trophy in three years for this club and one of the worst United teams in recent memory. It would also include a European trophy and an FA Cup final win over rivals Manchester City.
But as shown with Erik ten Hag, these incredible moments do not turn things around magically. He won that FA Cup but things didn’t suddenly improve afterwards and he was eventually sacked.

Winning the Europa League would be a huge boost for Amorim’s side but there’s a lot of work for the Portuguese boss to do to truly improve the situation at Old Trafford.
