Kobbie Mainoo and Ayden Heaven completely agree on “special” Manchester United teammate after contract update

Manchester United duo Kobbie Mainoo and Ayden Heaven have completely agreed on one of their ‘special’ teammates in a new interview.

Despite losing 1-0 to Arsenal in their opening game of the season, Manchester United provided a solid performance and will be hoping to build on it going forward.

Neither Kobbie Mainoo or Ayden Heaven appeared in the game but the young duo are expected to get plenty of minutes across the season.

One of the standout players during that clash was Bryan Mbeumo, who was the best player on the pitch in the first half of the game.

The ex-Brentford man is expected to bring goals to United’s frontline after netting 20 in the Premier League for the Bees last term.

But he will also clearly bring other aspects to the team. Supporters have already noticed that he has a wicked in-swinging cross in his locker.

Mainoo and Heaven completely agree on “special” United teammate

When asked about Mbeumo’s start to life at Old Trafford, Mainoo was full of praise and labelled the 26-year-old as someone who can provide something ‘special’ to the team.

“Seeing what he’s done over the last few seasons, the amount of goals he scores and the quality he has, to bring him here I was always excited to see that,” the 20-year-old told United’s club media team.

“Really quick, really strong and with a great touch as well. It’s been amazing playing with him after the season he had – lots of goals, lots of assists so he’ll bring something special and unique to the team.”

Heaven was also questioned about his new teammate and had similar words of praise to Mainoo. The defender suggests that he has ‘tricks up his sleeve’ that will help the team.

“He’s a great player obviously, left-footed and he’s got a couple of tricks up his sleeve if I’m being honest,” added the 18-year-old centre-back.

“He’s just like Cunha, I’m really excited to see what he can bring to us and the team.

“He scored a lot of goals and that can help in our team, scoring more, so bringing that as well. With Bryan, that puts us in the best place.”

Amorim asked about Mainoo contract update

Meanwhile, some fans were concerned to not see Mainoo play in United’s opening game against Arsenal, with Manuel Ugarte being substituted on ahead of the Academy graduate.

The Uruguayan’s horror cameo likely contributed to those feelings but there are clearly going to be chances for Mainoo heading forward.

Although, when asked for an update on the midfielder’s contract situation in a press conference this week, Amorim admitted that there has been no significant progress over new terms for the player this summer.

“That part is with Jason,” the United boss replied. “So it’s our player, he has a contract, I didn’t hear any news about that.”

Speaking further on Mainoo’s development and how he is starting fewer games, Amorim added: “We had some issues [injuries] but we play with two midfielders, so it’s sometimes a different way of playing.

“And we have to understand, they have to understand, especially the young players, that there is phases in the season.

“Nowadays it’s normal with a lot of games, things are going to change, but he is there, he’s fighting, he’s training, so he’s one more option for us to win games.”
