Kai Rooney’s incredible highlights in Man Utd U15s win vs Chelsea as Wayne Rooney explains his best position

Kai Rooney spearheaded his Manchester United U15 side to victory against Chelsea in the final of the Premier League Cup, as Wayne Rooney explained his best position.

With an assist and two goals in the Premier League Cup final, Kai Rooney led his U15 Manchester United side to victory.

A brilliant floated cross to the back post saw Wayne Rooney’s son pick up an assist, before he then followed up with a powerful strike into the top corner, and a low drive into the bottom corner to finish his afternoon off.

With the goal contributions being posted to X by TheSecretScout, it is clear to see that Rooney has got a similar eye for goal as his father, despite being left-footed.

United were victorious as they beat the previous winners, Chelsea, 3-1. Rooney contributed to all three of the Red Devils’ goals.

Rooney states his son’s best position

Speaking on a recent episode of The Overlap, Rooney was asked about the modern striker position by Jamie Carragher, where he then took the chance to talk on his son.

Rooney said: “He’s a number nine, he gets the ball, lays it off, gets in the box… He’s a number nine, but then sometimes he plays on the right, and he comes home and he’s like, ‘I enjoy it more off the right’, so I say no, no, you’re playing as a nine, he’s better as a nine.”

He then continued by saying, “He can play off the right, he’s left footed. He says it’s boring, and I think for a lot of number nine’s now, they’re not involved in the game that much, they’re trying to find different positions to go and play.”

Although his son is eager to play off the right, it is clear that the England legend is keen for his son to follow his footsteps by playing through the middle.

United’s striker dilemma

Gone are the days of United having prolific frontmen such as Rooney, Eric Cantona, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Nowadays, goals are more of a scarcity for the Red Devils.

The Premier League giants will be hoping that their academy strikers can change their fortune in the next few seasons, with Chido Obi in particular getting first team opportunities under Ruben Amorim.

Although it’d be difficult to reach the heights of his dad’s 208 Premier League goals, the 15-year-old Rooney looks to have a promising future ahead of him, whether he plays through the middle or not.
