Julian Nagelsmann ‘makes feelings clear’ on taking over at Man Utd as INEOS reply

Julian Nagelsmann has reportedly made his feelings clear on the possibility of taking over at Manchester United amid Michael Carrick’s outstanding form.

While Michael Carrick’s brilliant form at Manchester United has continued to unfold, there are some in the director’s box who are thinking about the long-term future.

The former midfielder was brought in to reignite the fire following Rúben Amorim’s dismal reign and toxic dismissal, and this has resulted in the side collecting 19 of a possible 21 points and launching themselves to third in the Premier League ahead of a tough tie against Newcastle.

Carrick only has the head coach role until the end of the season, but his brilliant form has led many to wonder whether he may already be the perfect man for the job, although noise from within the club suggests no decision will be made until the season has concluded.

Similarly, many of the club’s reported top targets, such as Oliver Glanser, Carlo Ancelotti, and Thomas Tuchel, have all since taken a nose-dive in form or signed fresh contracts elsewhere, limiting Carrick’s competition for the job.

Nagelsmann makes feelings known about United job

Many of the world’s top managers are currently with national sides. Ancelotti is guiding Brazil at the World Cup, with Tuchel managing England, and the highly rated Julian Nagelsmann managing Germany.

Nagelsmann has plenty of big-club experience, having managed Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig before, and, according to TeamTalk, is now turning his attention to the vacant seat at United and has reportedly shown active interest in the role.

It is claimed that intermediaries have already his name forward for the role with the Old Trafford club, with Borussia Dortmund boss Niko Kovac also showing an interest in the position.

Representatives of both managers are said to have ensured their respective clients are firmly in the sights of the power-brokers at Old Trafford.

United leaning toward Premier League experience

United’s 2025 summer recruitment strategy was based on signing players with Premier League experience. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were the result, with the club also expected to dip back into the market to sign Premier League midfielders this coming summer, too.

FurtherTeamTalk’s report suggests they are also leaning in the same direction when it comes to managerial experience. Although Nagelsmann came close to joining Chelsea in 2023, all his managerial work has been based either in Germany or with German clubs.

The report states that United are unlikely to appoint a new permanent manager in the summer who doesn’t already possess experience in England’s top flight, while Carrick has been ticking every box so far for what they are looking for in a long-term boss.

A decision will not be made until the end of the season, and a series of candidates will be considered, with it far from certain who will take the reins next season.
