Joshua Zirkzee says what Manchester United fans want to hear after wowing fans with “dream debut”
Joshua Zirkzee has said precisely what Manchester United fans will want to hear following his full debut for the Netherlands on Saturday evening.
Earlier this summer, Joshua Zirkzee became the first signing since Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team took over the sporting operations at Manchester United, signing from Bologna for £36 million.
He would go on to be one of five recruits joining Erik ten Hag‘s ranks, with Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte also coming through the Old Trafford doors ahead of August’s deadline day.

Zirkzee was very much handed a perfect debut for the club, scoring the winning goal in the dying moments during a 1-0 victory over Fulham on the opening day of the Premier League season.
A few weeks later, the Dutch striker was handed his first start for the Netherlands, where he repaid the faith of manager Ronald Koeman in style. Zirkzee teed up Tijjani Reijnders to give the Netherlands a 2-1 lead before scoring himself as they defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina 5-2 on Saturday evening.
BeIN Sports described the affair as a “dream debut” for the 23-year-old, who became only the fourth player to contribute a goal and assist on their starting debut for the Netherlands after Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Bas Dost, and Vincent Janssen.
When asked on Dutch television if he enjoyed his debut, Zirkzee replied: “It went okay; I feel like I made a couple of mistakes. I could have another assist for Reijnders. We had a good ‘click’ during the game.”
These are words that United fans will love. While admitting that he did have a good performance, Zirkzee was very much open to criticising his errors and striving for further improvement.
After United defeated Fulham, the club lost against Brighton and Liverpool, and Zirkzee missed three chances against the latter.
If he consistently strives to improve, this will do wonders for United and Ten Hag throughout the season—especially once Rasmus Højlund returns to complete training and match fitness.
