Joshua Zirkzee delivers huge praise for ‘incredible’ Manchester United teammate
Joshua Zirkzee has delivered huge praise for one ‘incredible’ Manchester United teammate after completing his move to Old Trafford.
Zirkzee, 23, signed for United last weekend after returning from Euro 2024 with the Netherlands.
The Dutchman will provide important depth in the forward areas, with Rasmus Højlund being the only recognised striker at the club beforehand.
However, Zirkzee will also be able to play in different positions, such as behind the striker and on the flanks. United view him as a versatile forward.
Speaking to United’s media team this week, the young forward was asked about the Euro semi-final clash between England and the Netherlands.
Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were on the opposition team as the Three Lions progressed to the final of the competition, where they eventually lost out to winners Spain.
Zirkzee was extremely complimentary of Mainoo’s performance during the tie. The 19-year-old won the Fans’ Player of the Match award for that game.
“Kobbie had a fantastic game, he played incredible. I was actually talking about it on the bench, like, ‘This guy is very, very good’.
“And Luke came in obviously, also a strong game.
“Unfortunately, we lost against them in the last minute. I hoped we could have sent them home instead, but yeah, it’s football, so after the game, I wished them good luck and all the best for the final.”
The pair were also pictured in conversation after full-time, where Mainoo asked whether the 23-year-old would be joining him at Old Trafford this season.
“Yeah, he just asked if I was coming,” explained the striker when questioned about what Mainoo had said to him. “I said, ‘See you soon after the final.'”
