Joshua Zirkzee sends brilliant Kobbie Mainoo message as Man Utd transfer U-turn occurs
Joshua Zirkzee has sent a brilliant message to Manchester United teammate Kobbie Mainoo as another transfer U-turn occurs at Old Trafford.
Manchester United kicked off their 2024/25 Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Fulham last Friday.
The Reds put in a solid performance but struggled to finish their chances. Bruno Fernandes had the two best opportunities in the first half, only to be denied by Bernd Leno both times.
Erik ten Hag’s team pressed well and created several opportunities, but their finishing let them down until Joshua Zirkzee’s late impact. The Dutch striker scored a fantastic goal, sealing the victory for his new team.
Kobbie Mainoo also had a standout performance for the Reds, especially out of possession. No player won more duels than the teenager (13) during the opening weekend of the league campaign.
The 19-year-old took to Instagram after the game and wrote, “No place like home🏡,” adding a one-word compliment for goalscorer Zirkzee: “Hitman.”
The Dutch international, who previously explained his friendship with Mainoo before his move to Old Trafford, responded with the perfect description of his new teammate.
In the comments of Mainoo’s post, Zirkzee responded with another one-word compliment: “General.” The teenager does seem to be becoming United’s midfield general, with his defensive and attacking games improving.
Both players are expected to play essential roles in Ten Hag’s team this season and beyond. Meanwhile, another transfer U-turn has occurred.
It had been heavily reported that United would be signing another left-back this summer due to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia’s injury troubles.
Diogo Dalot had to play the opening Premier League fixture in the position while Noussair Mazraoui made his debut at right-back.
However, The Athletic has now reported that the club are no longer planning to sign a left-back this summer. A midfielder could be the final addition of the window in the coming days.
Harry Amass is a potential option to play this season but is not yet considered to be ready for competitive first-team football.
Otherwise, Mazraoui, Dalot and Lisandro Martínez are all able to cover in the position until Shaw returns from injury after the September international break.
