Joshua Zirkzee has broken his silence about his future as Manchester United make a transfer approach for the striker.

The Reds are looking to sign a centre-forward to support 21-year-old Rasmus Højlund next season.

Højlund is currently the club’s only recognised no.9, and while he scored 16 goals last term, it appeared clear that he needed extra support in the squad.

There have been a number of players linked with a move, including Brentford striker Ivan Toney, but Joshua Zirkzee also appears to be a serious option for the Old Trafford outfit.

According to David Ornstein, the Reds are exploring a deal to sign the Dutch striker from Bologna. His current contract includes a £34 million release clause.

The aforementioned report claimed that club-to-club talks have yet to take place, but United are speaking to the 23-year-old’s representatives, and their interest is advanced.

Zirkzee scored 12 goals and registered seven assists last term and addressed the uncertainty around his future at the Italian club last month.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the young attacker did not dismiss the possibility of leaving this summer despite the club qualifying for the Champions League.

“After the holidays we’ll see what will happen. As far as I know so far I will play the Champions League with Bologna but I can’t say anything,” he admitted.

“There’s a lot going on; in the meantime, we’re thinking about finishing the season well, and then we’ll come back after the holidays and see what happens.”
