Jose Mourinho tells Man United fans important Ruben Amorim trait, Paul Scholes has responded
Jose Mourinho has told Manchester United fans an important trait of incoming manager Ruben Amorim and Paul Scholes has responded.
Manchester United have reached out to Sporting Lisbon, offering to activate the release clause for manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim, currently leading Sporting at the top of the Portuguese league with an unbeaten record this season, is open to the move following United’s dismissal of Erik ten Hag.
The 39-year-old is now the frontrunner for the head coach position, and United are eager to bring him in as soon as possible.
Jose Mourinho on important Amorim trait
According to the Manchester Evening News, ex-United boss Jose Mourinho believes that his former club are hiring the “best manager in Portugal” in Amorim.
The 39-year-old studied under Mourinho during his time at Old Trafford in 2018 as part of an internship. The report adds that the veteran manager remembers a “good kid” from that time.
Since then, Amorim has paved his own way in the managerial game, becoming one of the most highly-rated young coaches in Europe.
His 3-4-3 formation has become his well-known system, with flying wingbacks and exciting forwards, but some have questioned whether he will adjust at Old Trafford.
Yet, Mourinho knows the 39-year-old more than many and the aforementioned report states that the ‘Special One’ insists Amorim never changes his approach regardless of the opposition.
He also has described Amorim’s style as “always intense” and believes the tactics provide depth for the wingers and striker.
Paul Scholes responds to Amorim’s formation
Of course, unless things get off to a brilliant start under Amorim, there will inevitably be question marks about the formation.
Three-at-the-back formations are scrutinised even if the wingbacks are essentially playing as wingers, but Paul Scholes believes that United fans must accept the change.
“It’s not a system we’re used to,” he initially admitted while speaking on The Overlap’s Fan Debate.
“But we’re in a position now where you can’t look back now and think we’re a 4-4-2 team or a 4-4-1-1 team. We’ve got to bow to whatever this new coach wants.”
