The manager of one of Manchester United’s loan stars has sent him the perfect message. Jonny Evans deserves a lot of praise for his role in arranging the move.
With four points from their first three games, Manchester United enter the first international break of the season as the ninth-placed Premier League side.
Ruben Amorim’s side have, unfortunately, not received any call-ups to the England squad, except for their loan star, Marcus Rashford, who is spending the season at Barcelona.
On a positive note for the Reds, their younger stars have received multiple call-ups to the England U20 squad, with both Ayden Heaven and Elyh Harrison earning spots in the squad.
In Harrison’s case, the 19-year-old goalkeeper is currently on loan at Shrewsbury. His manager has now come out and given him the perfect message ahead of the international period.
Appleton send Harrison ideal message
A BBC reporter asked Shrewsbury manager Michael Appleton about how his young loan star was getting on in the England camp, to which he replied, via X:
“He’s doing great, he’s doing great, obviously, there’s a game tonight, so if he is playing, then good luck to him, but he’s obviously someone who’s got great talent.
“We’ve obviously brought him in from United, we know what his capabilities are. He brings a calmness to the group.
“He made a couple of errors in his first couple of games, but he was man enough and showed a lot of maturity to get over that and deal with that, which is great.
“And I do believe that if you stick with young players and allow them to make mistakes and give them a bit of freedom, then eventually it pays off, but it only pays off if you give them the time to do it.”
Evans praise due
With the Shrewsbury manager clearly having a lot of faith in Harrison, despite a few early mistakes, it demonstrates the stellar job that Jonny Evans has done as the Head of Loans and Pathways.
Evans was appointed to this role after retiring from his playing career in the summer and has already done a great job in finding opportunities for young Reds to shine and express themselves.
This will be of great importance to United in the coming years, with so many teenage talents coming through at the club, as they will want to be careful with their developments.
Hopefully, Evans can continue this fantastic job in the coming seasons, as if he can find more managers with a similar mindset to that of Appleton for young Red Devils, then they surely be given the platform to succeed.
