Joao Pedro explains immediate hope he has for “brilliant” Alejandro Garnacho after Man Utd transfer

New Chelsea striker Joao Pedro has reacted to the signing of Alejandro Garnacho, after being spotted at Stamford Bridge on Saturday

Alejandro Garnacho was seen in the stands at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to watch his new side beat Fulham 2-0 after Manchester United reached an agreement to sell the Argentinian for a deal worth £40 million.

United had initially set an asking price of £50–60 million for the winger, but Garnacho’s determination to join Chelsea and refusal to consider alternative offers left the club with little choice.

The 21-year-old made his breakthrough under Erik ten Hag and even scored in last season’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

However, following critical remarks about Ruben Amorim and the club after the Europa League final defeat, Garnacho was left out of the squad this summer and told to find a new team.

Garnacho’s move to Stamford Bridge has been on the cards since January, with a transfer seeming to be more of a matter of when rather than if.

Despite failing to hold out for a higher fee that matches Garnacho’s talent, there has been a sell-on clause included in the 21-year-old’s contract, which is said to be around 10 per cent of any future fee.

Speaking to BBC MOTD after his side’s 2-0 win over Fulham, Joao Pedro, who was signed in the summer, spoke on what Garnacho can bring to the West London club, explaining he hopes the 21-year-old can have an immediate impact.

He said: “He is a brilliant player and hopefully he can help us in the next games. A very warm welcome to him, and hopefully he can be in the squad next game.”

Busy end to the transfer window

Manchester United are still expecting for a number of players to leave Old Trafford before the Monday deadline.

After Garnacho’s deal has been completed, a loan deal for Rasmus Højlund is expected to be finalised, and a push for Antony’s departure is also expected to continue.

Real Betis have been in talks with Antony’s camp all summer, but after being close to a deal, Betis stunningly withdrew their offer, citing their inability to pay the difference in Antony’s lost wages.

It remains to be seen if a deal will get done before the deadline for the Brazilian, and United still expect Betis to come back in with an offer.

News on a move for Jadon Sancho has gone quiet after the 25-year-old turned down the chance to move to Roma after United accepted a bid, having already rejected the chance to move to Juventus and Fenerbahce earlier in the summer.
