Manchester United have been linked with Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes and he ‘idolises’ one of his potential teammates.
Manchester United seem to be hitting their stride this season after a rocky beginning, with the club’s new additions starting to make an impact in the Premier League.
Over the summer transfer window, United bolstered their attacking options by signing three forwards; Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo.
The Reds also completed a deadline-day move for goalkeeper Senne Lammens, although many fans were left frustrated by the club’s inability to bring in a defensive midfielder.
Reports suggest that plans are already in place for at least two midfield signings to occur next summer and there are already rumours about which players they may be.
Gomes ‘idolises’ United star he could play alongside next season
One of the latest names to be linked with a move to Old Trafford next season is Wolves star Joao Gomes, with MailSport claiming that United are monitoring the midfielder.
It could be an attractive deal for United, especially if Wolves end up in the relegation zone when the season ends, and the 24-year-old has been compared to a current United star.
Previous reports from The Athletic state that Casemiro is one of Gomes’ idols and it was also claimed that Wolves believed that he was a close match to Casemiro’s style when they signed him.
Gomes has played alongside the United veteran on international duty and may be hoping to join him at Old Trafford.
Casemiro may stay at United
Even though Gomes could be one of multiple midfield signings this summer, Casemiro could remain at the club in a squad rotation role as he enters his mid-thirties.
The veteran midfielder could help players like Gomes settle into the club and help improve their game behind-the-scenes.
United are reportedly open to discussing a new deal on lower terms for Casemiro and Amorim is keen to keep the ex-Real Madrid man at Old Trafford.
If that happens, Gomes could potentially play alongside his idol in midfield at some point if United decide to sign the Wolves star.
