Jamie Carragher suggests Manchester United will sell £60m star after major Fabrizio Romano update

Jamie Carragher has suggested that Manchester United will sell one £60 million star after a major update from Fabrizio Romano.

With just a week left in Manchester United’s season, many supporters are counting down the days after a disappointing Premier League campaign.

Although there’s still a chance for Europa League success this week—where Ruben Amorim’s side will take on Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao—significant concerns remain that need to be tackled in the upcoming summer transfer window, no matter the result.

Several areas of the squad are in need of strengthening, with the forward line emerging as a clear priority. Improving depth across the board is absolutely crucial.

Matheus Cunha has surfaced as United’s primary transfer target, and recent developments suggest progress is being made toward securing a deal.

Carragher thinks United will sell £60m star after Cunha joins

Following on from Fabrizio Romano’s updates, which claim that an agreement between United and Cunha is on the verge of completion, Jamie Carragher has offered his assessment on the deal.

“I think it’s a great signing and I think he’s a brilliant player,” the Liverpool legend said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“I love watching him play. He was in my team of the season at the halfway point, he had a great start to the season.

“I watched him at Man City a few weeks ago and he looked really sharp, quick. We know how the manager at Manchester United wants to play with two No.10s in his team. I think he’d fit perfectly.”

However, on the other hand, Carragher believes that the signing of Cunha could spell the end of Alejandro Garnacho’s time at the club, with the Argentine priced at around £60 million.

“There is a lot of talk about Garnacho moving on because he’s come through the academy system and we know what that means for the PSR [Profit and Sustainability Rules],” the 47-year-old added.

“We also know Man United have got a few problems with that issue right now. I think if a decent offer comes in for Garnacho, Man United will probably take it.”

Should United sell Garnacho?

Garnacho can frustrate with his performances, especially from this season, but it seems to make little sense to sell him this summer.

Instead, the 20-year-old should be able to offer the depth which United desperately need in their frontline playing behind Cunha on that left side.

Quality has certainly been an issue at Old Trafford, and the Brazilian international should help address that, but the lack of depth has been just as detrimental.

It wasn’t so long ago where Garnacho was being used regularly off the bench under Erik ten Hag and impacting many games with his energy in the second half.

That should be something United look at for next season, although it wouldn’t be entirely surprising if a large bid catches their attention.
