Jamie Carragher has praised Rúben Amorim for a change he made as Manchester United drew 4-4 with Bournemouth during an insane Premier League tie on Monday evening.
Manchester United and Bournemouth shared a thrilling 4-4 draw on Monday evening as Rúben Amorim’s men missed the chance to move into the top five.
United started strongly and were rewarded early when Amad headed home from close range. Bournemouth responded well, with Antoine Semenyo bringing the visitors level.
Just before the break, Casemiro restored United’s lead by heading in a Bruno Fernandes corner, but Evanilson struck within a minute of the restart to make it 2-2.
Marcus Tavernier then put Bournemouth ahead with a superb free-kick. Amorim turned to Kobbie Mainoo, Benjamin Šeško and Lisandro Martínez, and with 15 minutes remaining Fernandes curled in a brilliant free-kick to equalise.
Moments later, Matheus Cunha gave United the lead, only for Eli Junior Kroupi to quickly make it 4-4. Two outstanding late saves from Senne Lammens preserved the draw, though United were left frustrated.
Carragher says clean sheets remain a big problem
United have kept one clean sheet all season, coming in a 2-0 win over Sunderland. Speaking on Sky Sports, former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher admitted that this is undoubtedly a big problem Amorim must solve.
“It’s a big problem for them,” he said. “They had problems at both ends of the pitch last season, and we highlighted before the game that they’re improving in attack. We saw that again tonight.
“Some of the attacking players from Manchester United were fantastic. They had a lot of young defenders out there as well tonight, which didn’t help.”
Speaking on 19-year-old Ayden Heaven: “I’ve been there as a young defender. You make a mistake, and more often than not, it ends up in the back of your goal, and that was the case tonight.
“Even though the game finished 4-4, and Bournemouth probably could, probably should have won it at the end, but Manchester United were by far the better team.”
Carragher praises Amorim for attacking intent
Despite the defensive issues, Carragher was also keen to point out just how good United were in attack. The side had 25 shots, nine of which were on target, and didn’t miss a single one of their big chances created.
“That was the first time in a long time, or certainly the first time under Rúben Amorim, when I felt like I was watching what Manchester United should be,” Carragher continued.

“It was wave after wave of attack, counter-attacks, and it almost felt like the opposition couldn’t keep them out. You get sucked back as a defender, I’ve been there, sucked back into that box in front of the Stretford End, and you can’t get out.”
“It felt inevitable when it went to 3-3 that United would go on and make it 4-3. I’d seen that story happen so often before as a player.”
After the stunning fixture, United will next travel to face Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, with Casemiro suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign.
