Jadon Sancho left Manchester United on deadline day to join Premier League rivals Chelsea on loan, with an obligation to buy the winger next summer.

Manchester United’s 2024 transfer window was exceptionally busy, leading to a significant overhaul of the squad at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag strengthened the team by acquiring five notable players: Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte.

At the same time, the club parted ways with several players, including Scott McTominay, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jadon Sancho, and Mason Greenwood, generating over £120 million in sales during the summer.

Sancho’s exit is not entirely surprising after he fell out with Ten Hag last season, despite reports claiming that they resolved their issues in pre-season.

The winger had been underwhelming at Old Trafford ever since his big-money move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 and will now officially leave for around £25 million next summer.

After the deal was announced on Saturday evening, Sancho conducted his first interview as a Chelsea player and seemed to deliver one last dig at Ten Hag.

When asked why he made the move, the 24-year-old focused on the impact of manager Enzo Maresca.

“I think it’s the manager who really drew me to the project,” Sancho said. “He spoke to me on the phone about this project and what he was building here, and for a young player like myself, it’s exciting, and I can’t wait to get started.”

This followed a blunt statement from the player about leaving United: “Thank you to all the fans, staff, and teammates at Man United. I wish everyone all the best in the future,” he wrote.

According to reports, Sancho’s move to Chelsea will be permanent as long as they do not finish below 14th in the Premier League table this season.

United, meanwhile, turn their focus towards a massive game against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
