Jadon Sancho “confidently” revealed new favourite position, says Borussia Dortmund boss
Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic has detailed the difficulties that Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho has faced and the player’s new “favourite” position.
Sancho, 23, has registered just one assist and zero goals in eight appearances for Dortmund since returning to the German club on loan in the January transfer window.
United decided to let the winger leave the club after his public spat with Erik ten Hag at the beginning of the season left him isolated from the first-team squad.
A return to Dortmund appeared to be the perfect opportunity for Sancho to kickstart his revival on the pitch, but he has failed to make a major impression thus far.
“Jadon hasn’t played for a long time, and he lacks rhythm,” explained Dortmund boss Terzic this week.
“It’s often the case that the guys who come back after a long downtime or a long break, they immediately light up at the beginning, when everything is new and fun again.
“And then every now and then there’s a dip.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjær spoke recently about the difficulties that Sancho faced in his first season at Old Trafford. The former United manager also mentioned how he preferred playing from the left wing, where Marcus Rashford operates.
Now, however, Terzic has instead explained that Sancho wants to play centrally as the no.10 in a team. That could prove difficult at Dortmund or United with the options for that position.
The manager added: “[Sancho] said very confidently that his favourite [position] is number ten. We know that it can be used very flexibly. But Julian Brandt and Marco Reus did really well on the ten.”
