Jack Moorhouse: What Rúben Amorim saw in December amid Premier League starboy comparison
What Rúben Amorim saw from Jack Moorhouse in December as the Manchester United Academy player is compared to a new Premier League starboy.
Jack Moorhouse is set to be included in Rúben Amorim’s travelling squad against Tottenham Hotspur as the side embark on a tough Premier League away fixture on Sunday afternoon.
Earlier on Saturday it was confirmed that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo had suffered an injury in training that would keep him out for a number of weeks, while Toby Collyer and Manuel Ugarte were also doubts.
With United sat 13th in the league table and Tottenham in 14th ahead of this weekend’s fixture, the clash in North London is set to be one that could make or break the rest of the season for both teams.
The 19-year-old midfielder has impressed after scoring three goals in seven Premier League 2 outings and has been training with the first-team of late.
What Amorim saw of Moorhouse in December
Although Amorim has spent a lot of time working on his first-team, there have been instances where he has taken the time to watch some U21 and U18 fixtures when games have been played at Carrington.
One of those games was a fixture in mid-December, when the club’s U21s team dispatched Southampton U21s in a 5-1 win in Premier League 2, with Moorhouse scoring twice in the second half.
Tyler Fletcher opened the scoring, while midfielder Dan Gore then doubled the lead, and a finish from Ethan Wheatley and a further two from Moorhouse sealed the game off in fantastic style, with Moorhouse comfortably the best player on the pitch that afternoon.
Moorhouse has continued to impress this season, with his second goal of the tie the pick of the bunch as a slivering run past Southampton’s defences before a calm finish in stoppage time added the team’s fifth of the afternoon.
Moorhouse’s comparisons to Premier League star
While United have been underwhelming this campaign, other Premier League teams such as Brighton, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth have been flying and are all battling for European spots.

One of the brightest breakout stars in the league this season has been Villa’s Morgan Rogers, who has taken England by storm, having scored 11 goals and provided six assists in Unai Emery’s brilliant team.
While some fans have been calling for United to look at the potential signing of Rogers this summer, Moorhouse has been touted as a potential Academy star who could replicate Rogers’ successes without United having to fork out a hefty transfer fee.
The 19-year-old has been fantastic since he joined United in 2022, with this season a particular highlight so far, and it would be fantastic to see the midfielder secure a first-team debut at some point this campaign.
United have many young Academy stars who are waiting for their chance to shine, with James Scanlon and Chido Obi both set for future debuts in the coming months, while many are excited about the prospect of Shea Lacey following his injury return.
