Jack Fletcher receives new shirt number as Manchester United hint at ‘more changes’ amid Bryan Mbeumo arrival

Jack Fletcher has become the eighth Manchester United player to receive a new shirt number this summer but the club have hinted that more changes will be occurring.

Manchester United returned for pre-season training at the beginning of last week and are now gearing up for their first game of the summer.

Leeds are the opponents for the Reds in Stockholm, Sweden this weekend before Ruben Amorim’s side head out to the United States for their tour.

The players have been working hard at Carrington since they returned and there have been several changes to players’ shirt numbers, as always in the off-season.

Diogo Dalot, Chido Obi, Tyler Fredricson, Shea Lacey, Bendito Mantato and Reece Munro have swapped from their numbers last season, while Matheus Cunha has taken the club’s no.10 shirt.

It has now been confirmed that Jack Fletcher has also received an upgraded shirt number for the 2025/26 campaign, making him the eighth player to get a new shirt this summer.

After wearing the no.57 last term, Fletcher will don the no.38 heading forward, a number previously worn by fellow Academy player Scott McTominay.

This was confirmed by club reporter Adam Marshall, who spotted the change during one of the training sessions at Carrington this week.

Interestingly, Marshall also hinted that the changes are not finished at Old Trafford in terms of shirt numbers this summer.

“Fletcher was wearing the no.38 on his training kit, albeit under his bib, as he is moving from no.57. I understand there are more changes for us to still confirm in due course,” he wrote.

Mbeumo among the extra changes anticipated

The two most obvious shirt numbers to come in from now is Diego Leon, who is yet to receive one, and Bryan Mbeumo. United are confident of signing the Cameroon international in the coming days after submitting a £70 million bid to Brentford.

Mbeumo wears the no.19 at the Gtech Community Stadium, and that number remains free at Old Trafford, which suggests that he will be receiving that number.

Meanwhile, there are also some existing players who could still receive shirt number changes such as Amad, who wears no.16, or no.37 Kobbie Mainoo.

There are plenty of other young talents who could also receive new numbers, as well as any other new signings the club makes before deadline day.
