Mason Mount has revealed Manchester United’s true ambitions in the Premier League this season following victory against Crystal Palace.
Manchester United recovered from their defeat to Everton by earning a win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend.
After conceding in the first half, the Reds came back strongly in the second, with Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount finding the net to seal the victory.
Ruben Amorim’s men currently occupy seventh place in the Premier League, but they remain only four points behind second-placed Manchester City.
With a promising set of fixtures ahead, United will look to build consistency and secure a firmer foothold in the table.
Mount reveals United’s true ambitions this season
After finishing 15th in the Premier League last term, United needed to make major improvements this season and while things aren’t perfect, it seems like they are on the right track.
It’s hard to tell where United should be aiming to finish in the Premier League table. Previous reports suggested that INEOS are demanding that Amorim guides the team back into European competition for next season.
Mount, who scored the winner at Palace, has revealed that the squad are aiming to reach the Champions League positions in particular.
“I’ve felt good all season. I had a good pre-season under my belt, I’ve been working hard in training every week and not just me, but as a group we’ve been at it,” Mount began when speaking to the media at Selhurst Park.
“It’s been up and down but we’re in a lot better place, (both) me personally and us as a group. We really need to kick on now and win more games.
“That’s the most important thing, to win. Obviously a difficult result in the last game, but to come back and win was massively important. It’s time to really kick on now and shoot for that top-four position.”
Champions League football is a realistic ambition for United
The level in the Premier League this season doesn’t seem to be as high as it has been in previous years and United should be looking to take advantage of the fact that they do not have to play in Europe.
Other teams around them, including Palace, are already feeling the effects of playing twice a week while the Reds will get a full week of rest between games most weeks.

With quality players like Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes leading the team, qualifying for the Champions League is a realistic ambition for the squad to have.
The most difficult period to navigate will be in the coming weeks when the likes of Mbeumo and Amad leave for AFCON. But players like Mount and Zirkzee will be aiming to impress during their absences.
