“It’s quite strange” – Luke Shaw jokes about new Manchester United signing
Luke Shaw has joked that he finds Mason Mount playing for Manchester United “strange” after his £55 million signing for Erik ten Hag.
Mason Mount joined Manchester United back at the beginning of July and became the first player to transfer to Erik ten Hag‘s club this summer.
It is a signing that has seen United strengthen their midfield unit, with Mount set to compete with Christian Eriksen for a starting spot next season.

One significant part of Mount’s signing is that he helps strengthen the English-speaking core of the squad. Unlike previous seasons, United are starting to build a core team of players who can all speak in English, with Ten Hag always pushing for superior communication skills.
Speaking about the signing of his friend Mason Mount, Luke Shaw has joked that it felt strange to see the ex-Chelsea academy player in a United kit.
“It’s quite strange, to be honest,” he told MUTV a few days ahead of kick-off against Borussia Dortmund.
“But now I’m really happy to have him here. I think it’s been quite nice for the new lads to come in because sometimes in the past they’ve come in after the tour and I think the tour is a good time to come [into the squad] because we’re all together a lot.
“So it’s nice for them to be with the lads and the staff and integrate and get to know everyone a bit more than when you’re just at the training ground. So it’s been really good, really positive and I’m looking forward to one more game.”
Speaking more on next season, Shaw explained that the squad are all “really excited,” and that he feels the squad can compete for trophies next season.
“I think we all feel really good,” he said. “[It’s been] very positive [in pre-season] and of course, after ending the season in disappointment [losing in the FA Cup final], I think we’ve got a lot to improve on this season.
“Our aim from the start of the season has to be winning every single competition we’re in and I feel like if we keep adding more strength to our squad, then why not?”
