INEOS must make two ruthless decisions after Man United pre-season, one is close
INEOS should be making two ruthless decisions following Manchester United’s pre-season tour and one seems to be close.
The Reds can take many positives and several negatives from their pre-season tour. Despite the results, there was some very promising aspects ahead of the new campaign.
Yet, there remain too many players who really need to be sold. We have seen some of Erik ten Hag’s squad depart but there must be further movement.
Not only to make room for new signings, but simply because they are no longer good enough in this team.
Pre-season should always be taken with a pinch of salt, but the same players are showing the same weaknesses in their game and too many of them could have important roles next term unless they are sold.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a great servant to the club since his move in 2019 but the problems remain the same. Building from the back becomes a chore with him on the right, especially against any side that has done their homework on the defender.
Yes, he is absolutely excellent at one-versus-one duels against a winger. But that isn’t what United are trying to build.
While his reported replacement, Noussair Mazraoui, has clear injury concerns, he is also a much more well-rounded fullback than the 26-year-old.
Meanwhile, Casemiro is another who needs to go. The biggest problem with the Brazilian is that he will be expected to play a big part in the team if he stays and there’s too many problems that exist if that happens.
The midfielder was one of the best in his position not so long ago. He still shows flashes of brilliance but even looking fresh in pre-season, he was still overcommiting and sliding all over the place.
If United want to improve their out-of-possession work, that simply needs to change. And then there is the problem of his consistency on the ball. These are not issues that your holding midfielder should present.
There might not be a Rodri or Declan Rice on the market right now, but INEOS need to be ruthless and make sure a move for the former Real Madrid man goes through.
Of course, these are not the only two players who need to leave the club, which perhaps shows the difficult job INEOS have on their hands.
