Manchester United have confirmed three contract extensions since INEOS arrived at the club at the beginning of 2024 but two more are expected soon.
There have been some major changes at Manchester United since Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS took charge a year and a half ago.
The workforce off the pitch has been stripped down, with many loyal employees losing their jobs, while there are efforts being made to do the same with the playing squad.
One of the things INEOS immediately changed at the club was the amount of contract extensions being made at Old Trafford as that has been an underlying issue behind the struggles in selling players.
There was no contract extensions issued during the 2023/24 campaign after they arrived and in the following summer Bruno Fernandes was the only player to be rewarded with a new deal.
After that, Amad was rewarded with a new deal as he was entering the final six months of his contract and Harry Maguire also had the one-year extension of his contract activated.
INEOS expected to reach agreement for Mainoo extension
While there are a lot of exits coming this summer, there could also be a couple of contract extensions, with the club having already confirmed they are in talks with Tom Heaton over a new deal.
There has been a lot of talk about Kobbie Mainoo as well – with his contract negotiations being spoken about for so long now.
The teenager struggled last season but Ben Jacobs has explained that he is expected to sign new terms at Old Trafford and is not interested in moving.
“My expectation is that Kobbie Mainoo stays at the football club and ends up signing a new deal,” Jacobs said on The United Stand. “Certainly, the player – despite links with Chelsea – isn’t looking for a move away.”
It will be great news for United and Mainoo to finally draw this saga to an end after endless rumours about the midfielder’s future.
Mainoo will be eager to start season strongly
INEOS are not giving contract extensions out for anybody and Mainoo is rated highly within the club. That doesn’t change just because of one difficult season.
With a full summer of rest – for the first time since he became a professional player – Mainoo will be eager to start next season strongly.
In terms of his position, it is likely that we see the 20-year-old playing deeper and further up and there’s nothing wrong with that.
At this moment, there’s no need to box him into one specific role and it is clear that – at his best – Mainoo can make an impact in both of those roles in Amorim’s system.
