“Incredible things…” – Ruben Amorim says “amazing” Manchester United star has stepped up in the last three weeks

Ruben Amorim believes that one “amazing” Manchester United star has stepped up for the team over the last three weeks.
Manchester United continued their impressive run of form with a dominant 3-0 victory over Leicester City in the Premier League, as Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho both ended their lengthy goal droughts.
Ruben Amorim’s side made a strong start and deservedly took the lead before halftime, with Højlund scoring his first goal in 22 appearances. The visitors remained in control throughout the match at the King Power Stadium, showcasing a composed and commanding performance.
Garnacho finally got on the scoresheet after an earlier goal was disallowed for offside, catching Mads Hermansen off guard with a sharp finish.
Bruno Fernandes then sealed the win in style, netting a brilliant goal late in the game to secure all three points for United.
Amorim says De Ligt has stepped up for United
Getting three goals was a huge plus for United on the night, but it was arguably just as important for the team to keep a clean sheet.
It was the first time United had not conceded a goal in a game since late January and it came after a solid defensive performance.
Matthijs de Ligt was the standout performer at the back and fought through the pain to last the entire 90 minutes.
The Dutchman has been in fine form lately, which was defined by his goal-saving defensive moment in the second half, where he forced Jamie Vardy into a pass before blocking a dangerous shot afterwards.
Speaking after the game, Amorim placed huge praise on De Ligt’s performances in recent weeks and joked that he hopes the defender won’t be playing every minute for the Netherlands during the international break.
“I think in the last three weeks, Mata [De Ligt] is doing incredible things,” the United boss told club media when asked about the defensive performance.
“I hope he is going to the national team, don’t play a lot of games… but play a little bit. He is doing amazing.”
De Ligt becoming fan-favourite at United
De Ligt was initially left out of the Netherlands squad for these upcoming international fixtures but was recalled due to defensive injuries in the camp.
It is no less than the defender deserves after his impressive form. He has played the full game in all of United’s last seven fixtures, including the 120 minutes against Fulham in the FA Cup.

During that time, he has been swapping between playing in the middle of the back three and out on the right. He seems to be really improving in how he plays the wide centre-back role, with a more aggressive approach stepping in to press the opponent.
There were major question marks over the 25-year-old when he joined from Bayern Munich in the summer, particularly about his injury record. De Ligt has only missed two games this season, both due to illness.
He is certainly becoming a fan-favourite at Old Trafford and Amorim is also extremely pleased with him at the moment.
