“I’m sure” – Luke Shaw reveals Man United transfer plan amid Premier League and Champions League ambitions
Luke Shaw believes that Manchester United will be making ‘big signings’ in the summer ahead of ambitions to win the Premier League and Champions League next season.
Shaw, 27, has been one of United’s best-performing players this term. After a difficult start to the season – which saw him briefly displaced in the line-up by Tyrell Malacia – the Englishman has excelled at both left-back and centre-back.
With a single point needed to secure Champions League qualification, The Reds are closing in on a successful first campaign under Erik ten Hag.
A top-four finish was not expected at the beginning of the season. And when you add the fact that United have won the Carabao Cup and are in the final of the FA Cup, it’s a solid placemark in United’s journey back to glory.
“I think teams around us can definitely see that United are coming back,” explained Shaw when speaking to Sky Sports, shared by Football Daily. “The first season under the manager, I think of course there’s always going to be a bit of transition. It’s clear to see what he’s brought in and how he’s changed the way we think, the way we play.
“He wants to bring a lot of intensity. Everything he wants the team to do is high-intensity: He wants us to be aggressive, on the front foot, pressing as high as possible. But also with the ball, I think he’s made us better, we’re more of a threat when we’re on the ball.”
United have been much-improved defensively under the Dutchman – keeping 28 clean sheets across all competitions. Despite not being free-flowing in the goalscoring department, it has been well-reported that Ten Hag is after a world-class striker, with Harry Kane being named as the main option.
Shaw believes that United need to go to the next level and should aim to win the major honours again next season, especially after making ‘big’ signings in the coming months.
“It’s clear to see that we’re going in the right direction and I think we have to be challenging for the title with this team, definitely with the directions that the manager is going under.
“I’m sure we’re going to make new signings – big signings – this summer. Hopefully, we can get them done as quickly as possible so they’re in for pre-season. I think our aim at the beginning of next season has to be winning the Premier League and the Champions League and that’s how we have to think from now on.”
Kane is one player that could be heading to Old Trafford. After scoring 28 goals in the Premier League this term, the England and Tottenham Hotspur top goalscorer would immediately improve The Reds.
Mason Mount of Chelsea is also considered a serious option for United. The Reds are reportedly going to begin negotiations for the midfield maestro in due course.
