“I’m ready to do it…” – Leny Yoro reveals one thing Ruben Amorim is asking him to bring to Manchester United’s style

Leny Yoro has revealed that Ruben Amorim is asking him to do one thing to help improve Manchester United’s style after the game against Manchester City.

Manchester United were held to a 0-0 draw by rivals Manchester City on Sunday afternoon and may feel they deserved more from the match.

Ruben Amorim’s side showed encouraging signs in their overall performance, but their issues in front of goal persisted.

They managed to carve out some decent chances, yet their finishing let them down once they reached the City penalty area – a similar story throughout the season.

Even if an extra half hour of play was allowed, the deadlock still would have been unlikely to be broken.

On the other hand, United did have some positive defensive performances on the weekend, including that of Leny Yoro on the left side of the back three.

Yoro reveals what Amorim is asking him to bring to United’s style

Yoro, 19, continues to impress and seems to be getting settled into the Premier League. The teenager is becoming an important player in the backline for United.

Against City, his comfortability in possession was clear to see and the Frenchman often galloped forward with the ball past City players before popping it off to his teammates.

Yoro has revealed that Amorim is asking him to bring that quality to the team as the wide centre-back and that he’s “ready” to offer it to the team.

“Yeah, of course,” Yoro replied when asked by MUTV if Amorim is asking him to bring the ball out of the defensive line with his ball carrying.

“The three defenders need to control the game. If I can bring the ball forward for the strikers or midfielders, it’s good for us.

“I try to do it, the coach asks me to do it and I’m ready to do it.”

United’s wide centre-backs are crucial to Amorim’s style

There are many important roles in Amorim’s system, such as the wingbacks, but it feels like those wide centre-back positions are right at the top of the list.

United have had some very poor performances when those two players aren’t doing their job the right way and some impressive displays when they have been standout players.

Yoro is more than comfortable stepping out of the backline both in and out of possession, while also offering the recovery pace to get back in shape if the ball is progressed.

With Amorim asking the teenager to take on that responsibility of moving forward with the ball at his feet, it is clear that the head coach rates him very highly and he will continue to develop in the back three.
