“I’m ready…” – Liverpool player makes selection claim ahead of Manchester United clash

Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah has claimed that he’s ready to start against rivals Manchester United amid injury troubles in the backline for Arne Slot.

Manchester United have had a difficult start to life under Ruben Amorim, winning just four of his opening 10 fixtures.

The Portuguese head coach is slowly trying to implement his system, refusing to bow down to the win-now mentality that previous managers have had before him.

Of course, he knows that this will bring upon short-term pain but is hoping that it will lead to longer term success at Old Trafford once all of the pieces are in place.

That doesn’t change the fact that United are loitering in 14th place in the Premier League table and have lost all of their last three games.

It stings even more seeing Liverpool thrive under new manager Arne Slot, who has United’s rivals placed first in the Premier League and Champions League as things stand.

The Merseyside club will be fresh off the back of a 5-0 win against West Ham when they host United on the weekend while the Reds are focusing on a clash against Newcastle United on Monday evening.

Quansah makes selection claim ahead of United vs Liverpool

However, perhaps the one thing that could derail Liverpool’s season is injuries, and they are having to deal with one more after their latest outing.

Joe Gomez has been ruled out of the derby after suffering a hamstring injury during their win over West Ham on the weekend and Ibrahima Konaté is also out of action.

The French defender may be back in time to face United but it would be a risk to throw the injury-prone player straight back into the line-up.

That may leave Slot with the decision to start youngster Jarrel Quansah, who has only started two Premier League games this season.

The 21-year-old defender started against United at Old Trafford last season and made a mistake on the ball that led to Bruno Fernandes’ expertly-taken lob from 45-yards out in the 2-2 draw.

But now, the defender has claimed that he is ready to face Liverpool’s rivals if he is called upon on the weekend.

“It’s such a massive game but I just see it as another game we need to win and anything I can do to help the team, if I’m asked to do so, then I’m ready,” he told Liverpool’s media team.

United major underdogs against Liverpool once again

Regardless of injuries, there is no question that United are major underdogs going into this fixture, perhaps even more-so than in recent years.

Considering the results that have come, that is surprising to say but unfortunately it doesn’t feel like there’s been a bigger gap between these two teams in recent years than right now.

However, that also means that all of the pressure is on United’s rivals, and a shock victory would give some much-needed confidence to Amorim’s squad.

How does that happen? Perhaps the only saving-grace United fans have right now is the knowledge that Amorim is not stubborn in his approach and can prepare well for one-off games.

The 39-year-old set the team up very well in big games against Manchester City and Arsenal so far this season and you’d like to think that he has a specialised plan for this upcoming match.

No matter what it is, however, there’s absolutely no guarantee that it works and most United fans will simply be hoping that the team does not get embarrassed.
