Harry Kane has been discussing what has changed for Marcus Rashford after he received an England call-up following his mid-season loan to Aston Villa.

Manchester United opted to send Marcus Rashford out on loan to Aston Villa during the January transfer window, with the 27-year-old struggling for game time under Ruben Amorim.

Since joining Villa, Rashford has made just four starts but has impressed with his contributions, providing four assists — all for fellow loanee Marco Asensio.

His performances have caught the eye of Thomas Tuchel, earning him a call-up to the England squad under the new national team coach.

Rashford will be hoping to receive his first England cap since March 2024 on Friday evening as England face up against Albania in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Kane reveals Rashford change since Villa loan

When Rashford used to be a regular fixture in the Three Lions’ squad, he would always link up well with Harry Kane.

The United loanee’s direct style suited Kane’s preference to drop deeper and link play – something that was missing for England in Euro 2024.

Bayern Munich’s talisman is glad to see Rashford back in the England setup and believes that his teammate has “fresh energy” since making his January move.

“Yeah, it’s been great to have him back,” Kane told beIN Sports. “He’s obviously gone to Aston Villa and had a fresh start and you can see he’s got fresh energy, and even just in training has been fantastic so far.

“We know what Marcus can bring and we know how could he can be when he’s fully flying and fully fit and that’s what he’s been showing at Aston Villa.

“I’m excited to have him back in the team, obviously we have a good relationship on the pitch as well…”

Rashford desperate to make England’s World Cup squad

Rashford is desperate to play for England at the World Cup next year and will be hoping to make a positive impression on Tuchel over this international break.

The 27-year-old was offered a stunning contract from Saudi Arabia two months ago which would have made him one of the best-paid athletes in the world.

He refused those offers as he wanted to remain in a competitive league to stay in contention for national team call-ups.

When Rashford spoke to Henry Winter last December and detailed his desire for a new challenge, he also explained his excitement at a possible England return for the World Cup.

“That still excites me,” he said. “It’s playing for your country in the biggest competition in the world.

“I’ve had the chance to do it before and it’s an unbelievable experience. If I got the opportunity again, I’ll try and grab it with both hands.”
