One sporting director has claimed that his club made their “best signing in history” after going through a transfer saga with Manchester United in the summer.
Manchester United were busy in the summer transfer window and secured several signings as well as sanctioning plenty of exits.
Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon and Senne Lammens joined the club to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad.
In terms of departures, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony left on permanent transfers while the likes of Rasmus Højlund, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have gone on loans.
One of those player exits has been described as the “best signing in history” for their new club and they have already made a strong start this season.
Sporting director breaks silence on “best signing in history”
After a long, drawn out transfer saga, Antony finally secured his desired move to Real Betis at the end of the summer transfer window.
The Brazilian winger had success at the La Liga side when on loan last term but United wanted to sell him permanently this time around, which Betis eventually agreed to.
Antony has played three times for the Spanish side so far this term and produced a standout display this week in the Europa League against Nottingham Forest.
He scored and assisted in a 2-2 draw with the Premier League outfit and earned extreme praise from Betis’ sporting director, Manu Fajardo, after the game.
Fajardo told the PA news agency: “I am 100% sure that maybe Antony is the most important signing in Betis’ history.
“Everything [about the signing] because the talent, the level of the player, the level of the club as Manchester United — a big team, a big project, so I am 100% sure that Antony is the best signing in Betis’ history.”
Antony documentary coming soon
It has also recently emerged that Antony’s summer departure from Manchester and return to Real Betis will be the focus of a forthcoming documentary.
Reports suggest the production will showcase never-before-seen footage and interviews, although details regarding its release date and platform remain undisclosed.
Filming started at the close of last season, following the Brazilian in Seville and throughout the summer, capturing interviews and behind-the-scenes moments to illustrate his “dream reunion.”
The documentary will also feature insights from Manuel Pellegrini and other Betis staff, highlighting Antony’s strong bond with the club during the time he was “confined to a Manchester hotel.”
