With Monday’s game against Everton also being exactly one year since Rúben Amorim took charge of Manchester United, he has spoken about what he now expects from his side.
With the November international break now over, Rúben Amorim will be preparing his Manchester United side to face Everton on Monday night.
Man Utd currently sit in seventh in the Premier League, just one point behind Sunderland in fourth, and two behind Chelsea in third.
After enduring the club’s worst statistical start to a Premier League season, with just four points from four games, United’s form has taken a dramatic upturn, unbeaten in their last five matches, re-igniting hopes of securing Champions League football next season.
On the other hand, Everton, led by former United boss David Moyes, find themselves in 13th, picking up two wins, two defeats and a draw in their last five matches.
Amorim on his squad expectations one year after taking charge
Monday’s game against Everton will also coincide with it being exactly one year since Amorim’s first game in charge at United, overseeing a 1-1 draw against now-relegated Ipswich Town.
Speaking to club media, Amorim was asked about the draw against Ipswich a year ago and how it compares to what he sees from his squad now.
“I think we are showing that, but the important thing is that it doesn’t matter what we did in the recent games, we cannot forget that we started in that point to suffer a lot last year.
“We have to take that into account and to play every game like it is the last one or the first one.”
Amorim has exciting expectations going forward
Amorim’s main expectation from his side now is that he expects his side to feel like they have a chance in every game, something that was on show in their victory over Liverpool, and their back-to-back 2-2 draws against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham, where they left it late to salvage a draw and maintain the club’s unbeaten run.
In a verdict that should excite fans, the United boss explained that he expects his side to become more dominant with more significant control and play a better brand of football.
“If you ask me, yes, I expect a team [now] with more control and with more dominance, playing better football, and the most important thing is we are more competitive in every way,” he continued.

Once United return to Premier League action on Monday, they have a favourable run of games, not playing any club from the traditional top six until the 17th of January, when the Manchester Derby is played at Old Trafford.
Amorim’s men have a real chance of putting themselves in a great spot in the table by the turn of the new year, and could build up a significant amount of momentum before their back-to-back matches against Man City and Arsenal.
