“If they lose…” – Man Utd insider reveals transfer domino which could lead to surprise Alejandro Garnacho move

Alejandro Garnacho’s future remains uncertain as the Manchester United winger looks for an Old Trafford exit this summer.

Alejandro Garnacho was once hailed as Manchester United’s next big star, having broken into the first team under Ralf Rangnick before making an even greater impact under Erik ten Hag the following season.

Wearing the No.17 shirt, Garnacho played a pivotal role in United’s FA Cup final triumph in 2024, opening the scoring before Kobbie Mainoo added a second following a superb assist from Bruno Fernandes.

However, Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford is now in doubt following his outspoken comments after United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The winger publicly criticised Ruben Amorim for selecting Mason Mount ahead of him, and Amorim has since placed him on the transfer list and left him at home during the club’s pre-season tour.

United insider reveals transfer domino which can impact Garnacho

It looks like Garnacho’s preference is to remain in the Premier League and the most talked-about suitor is Chelsea, who have a longstanding interest in the winger.

However, they are not the only team who have an interest in the 21-year-old and it has been explained by former United head scout Mick Brown that Spurs could make a move for him.

It was explained that if Son leaves the North London club, Spurs could make a move to sign Garnacho over Chelsea in what would be a surprising deal.

Reports elsewhere have explained that MLS side Los Angeles FC have approached Son and presented a proposal for the player.

“Alejandro Garnacho is certainly one of the names on Tottenham’s list,” Brown told Football Insider. “It looks like they might be losing Son, whether that’s to the MLS or the Saudi league, so they are already looking at options to replace him.

“Garnacho has been a very impressive player for Man United. He’s got loads of promise and I’m surprised Amorim is so willing to let him go. I think he’d be an excellent addition for Tottenham and he’s definitely one they are interested in.

“I think it’s one that will happen in the closing stages of the window, when United need to sell and Tottenham can take advantage of that situation. As I say, particularly if they lose Son, because he’s going to need replacing.”

Garnacho needs this move

All of the attention is currently on United if this transfer saga goes to the end of the window but there should certainly be some eyes on Garnacho at the moment.

The value of pre-season is something that every professional knows about and that’s why Marcus Rashford was desperate to get his move to Barcelona done in time for their tour. The same for Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha at United.

Garnacho can wait until the end of the window to help Spurs or Chelsea try and get some millions off the price-tag but he will then have a very difficult task taking a starting position in either of those teams when others are so far ahead of him in their preparation.

Considering his entire problem at United came because he was dropped for an important game, you would imagine that he wants to make this move happen as soon as possible so he can stop the same happening at his new club.
