Ian Wright tells Erik ten Hag to make signing which will improve one Man United star
Ian Wright believes that Erik ten Hag will sign a forward this summer and that will help get the best out of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho.
Sancho, 22, joined Old Trafford at the beginning of last season and has yet to consistently show the levels which made him a world star at Borussia Dortmund.
The winger did end the Premier League season well in games against Chelsea and Fulham as the club secured their Champions League status for next term.
However, in order to take the next steps to return to the form he showed in Germany, Sancho needs to have a number nine to link up with in the final third, according to Arsenal legend Ian Wright.
“We know the capabilities of this guy and we know what he’s capable of with respect to his ability and skills,” Wright said on BBC Match of the Day.
“Once he gets going and once he gets the main focal point like he used to have at Dortmund, he will do his stuff.”
United have been without a quality number nine for most of the season. Anthony Martial has been injured for extended periods, whilst Wout Weghorst came in on a midseason loan to replace the exited Cristiano Ronaldo – he has scored just twice during his time with the club.
It seems likely that Ten Hag will aim to add a top-quality striker to his ranks in the coming months, with names like Harry Kane and Victor Osimehn being rumoured as options.
“We’re talking about somebody – from an ability wise – he is absolutely top drawer,” continued Wright when speaking on the former Dortmund player.
“He’s got six goals and three assists this season and I’m sure that they do want more from him, and I think that’s coming because I think he’s starting to settle and you feel that Man United will make signings and he will have more players up there to play with, more players to play off and I’m sure that we’ll see a lot more from Jadon Sancho.”
