INEOS transfer target Jean-Clair Todibo has revealed that he has previously trialled at Manchester United ahead of a potential summer move.

Manchester United are looking to sign multiple new centre-backs this summer, and Nice‘s Jean-Clair Todibo is a name on the agenda at Old Trafford.

INEOS, who also own the Ligue 1 side, wants to ensure that United is signing younger stars who can grow into elite players at the club, and Todibo fits the bill. At 24 years old, he is already the club’s captain.

Todibo’s presence at Nice has allowed him to be studied thoroughly by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford, who rate the Frenchman highly – but it seems United have been aware of his talents for some time.

Speaking in a recent interview, Todibo revealed that when he was 15, he trialled for multiple clubs in England, one of which was Manchester United. He also explained that he did not sign for the club due to the culture surrounding the team.

“I had trials at Nottingham Forest, Le Havre and Manchester United when I was 15 but chose to join Toulouse,” Todibo told MailSport.

“The culture was different at United and Forest. They weren’t like the players in my neighbourhood just trying to enjoy it, they were on a mission, trying to be a professional. That wasn’t my mindset at the time. I was there to enjoy and play football.”

Todibo has received worldwide praise in the last few seasons and has admitted that he would be open to playing in the Premier League at some point in his career.

“It’s nice to hear all the compliments,” he said. “I’m trying to stay focused on my game and my team-mates — but for sure, I am open to playing in the Premier League.”

Pressed on if he would want to move to United, he responded by keeping his cards close to his chest. “I’m going to keep that for me! Nice try.”
